Alvine Engineering was contracted to provide mechanical and electrical systems design for projects at the North Dakota State Capitol. The building, built during the Great Depression in the Art Deco style, is North Dakota’s tallest. Consideration had to be given to the architectural aesthetics as improvements were designed and constructed.

Fire Suppression System for the State Capitol Tower and Legislative Wing: The Tower (19 stories) and the Legislative Wing (3 stories) contained no existing fire suppression systems. Exit Improvements project consisted of the design and construction of exit passageways from existing tower exit stairs to the exterior of the building, replacing elevator lobby doors on all tower floors, replacement of shaft openings, and pressurization of the existing exit stairwells.
