Paul Merage School of Business
The new School of Business provides a high-tech 300-seat auditorium, a dining hall, resource centers, classrooms, study rooms, and a trading and technology lab. There is also a large meeting hall for symposiums with an outdoor terrace for receptions. The terrace overlooks a new shaded courtyard which is heated from below.
Alvine collaborated with the architects and contractors in a design-build delivery model to devise ways to achieve the highest levels of occupant comfort while minimizing energy consumption and building maintenance.
- LEED Platinum Certified.
- South facing corridors with vision glass to interior spaces improve occupant comfort and reduce energy consumption. The corridors transmit daylight to interior zones, but reduce solar gain and glare to the occupied spaces through the use of exterior fixed and internal automated shading.
- An air quality monitoring system is utilized to measure carbon dioxide levels in densely occupied spaces enabling outdoor air reset based on occupancy.
- The electrical systems feature energy-saving lighting controls, LED lights, and low-emission emergency power systems to minimize the building’s environmental impact. The engineering systems incorporated into the final design solution are able to achieve a target energy performance 25% better than required by California’s Title 24 energy code.
- Winner of the 2015 Design-Build Institute of America Award and LEED Platinum.
