Alternative Energy Project

Alvine Engineering was selected to bolster the efforts of Creighton University and their partner OPPD to optimize the educational value of the Department of Energy grant received by the University.  The grant was to be used to install alternative energy sources, such as photovoltaic (PV) panels and wind turbines, on campus to produce energy and, more importantly, to act as an interactive laboratory that would enhance students’ educational experience. 


Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons

Alvine Engineering is providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering systems design for a significant new corporate high-rise. The 32-story glass office tower will be constructed on the current headquarters campus of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance in downtown Milwaukee.  The company’s historic 1914 flagship temple-style headquarters will be enhanced by a two-block long Commons containing meeting areas, training facilities, dining, and public spaces.


High Density Data Center and Central Power Plant

Alvine Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, and technology systems design for this high density data center that made it one of the most powerful and energy-efficient operations of its type in the Midwest. The project was completed in 2012. The data center was awarded Uptime Institute’s Tier III Certification, one of only 20 awarded in the United States.

The project included a renovation of 50,000 square feet of the operation’s existing 80,000 square foot data center and a new 30,000 square foot central power plant. The plant boosts energy efficiency and increases power density so the data center can power more racks of servers and computer equipment, while also keeping them cool and running smoothly.


Bergstrom Football Training Facility

Alvine Engineering provided MEPT engineering systems design for this new addition to the Bergstrom Football Complex.  The two-story Football Training Facility was constructed adjacent to the Indoor Practice Facility, and includes locker rooms, strength training, athletic treatment, and rehabilitation and hydrotherapy areas. The second floor holds meeting rooms, coaching offices, conference space, and a video production area. A tunnel connects the training facility to Jack Trice Stadium for game day entrances.


North High School Addition and Renovation

Alvine Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and technology engineering systems design for this project.  The Weidt Group energy evaluation through Mid American Energy was used to select parts of the building envelope, electrical lighting controls, energy efficient light fixtures, mechanical system and controls.


Saddlebrook Joint-use Facility

Alvine Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and telecommunications systems design for this unique project. The Saddlebrook Joint-use Facility is a collaborative effort between the Omaha Public Schools, Omaha Public Library, and City of Omaha Parks and Recreation for a community-based public use facility.  A central “Commons” hub serves as the circulatory and symbolic center of the building.  Views from all three administration or information desks provide excellent visibility of the Commons activities and approaches.


207 Goode Avenue

Alvine Engineering was selected to provide mechanical, electrical, and fire protection systems design, and commissioning services, for this new 8-story building.

300 North LaSalle

Unique Design Features:

  • River water is brought into the building to reject heat from the chillers, saving millions of gallons of water and chemicals each year.
  • Core and shell designed to support a major data center for the anchor tenant.
  • Tower has a 50% green roof

3161 Michelson Drive

Alvine Engineering was contracted by Maguire Properties to design mechanical, electrical and security engineering systems for a new 20-story office tower, the 3161 Building. This new building was developed as part of the Park Place campus in Irvine, California. Situated on 90 acres in the heart of the Orange County, California central business district, the project was developed as a ‘city-within-a-city,’ which ultimately provides a unique living-working-dining-entertainment experience.

Wells Fargo Financial NorthStar Building

Alvine Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and technology engineering design and commissioning services for this new nine-story office building in downtown Des Moines. The design team was lead by internationally-known architecture firm, Pickard Chilton.
